Politicos and a humorist will be featured at the Nevada County Democrats' annual picnic Sunday, September 14, from 12:30 to 5:00, at Condon Park, Minnie Street and Butler Road, Grass Valley.
California State Assembly Majority Leader Alberto Torrico will be joining congressional candidate Charlie Brown (USAF Retired), Assembly candidate Mickey Harrington, candidates for local office, and political satirist singer-songwriter Roy Zimmerman at the catered affair.
Torrico is the first Assemblyman to serve in two different ethnic caucuses, the Hispanic Caucus and the Asian Pacific Island Caucus. He sits on the Banking, Business, Social Security, and Joint Audit Committees. He also chairs the powerful Committee on Governmental Organization. In his first term, 17 of his bills were signed into law.
Zimmerman, reminiscent of an earlier Tom Lehrer, is also a versatile singer and a virtuoso guitarist. He is performing in every state in the lower 48 before the November election. Zimmerman has released several CD’s, and has a popular site on U-Tube.
Catering by Fred Slikker will include tri-tip and chicken. Beer and wine can be purchased, and a silent auction of treasures and services will be offered by the Nevada County Democratic Women’s Club.
Admission is $25 in advance, $30 at the site. Reservations are available online at www.NevadaCountyDemocrats.com, or by sending check or credit card information to NCDCC, 2059 Nevada City Highway, Suite 209, Grass Valley, CA 95945.
For more information, call the office at 477-1804, or the Chairperson at 269-1635, or email margaretjoehnck@yahoo.com. For directions, call 273-7771.
