McClatchy Newspapers has just published a story on Sen. John McCain's oft-discussed temper, detailing an incident in which McCain allegedly pushed away a woman in a wheelchair.
According to McClatchy's report, McCain was met in the Senate office halls by a group of family members of POW-MIAs who had been pressing him to pursue more information on their relatives. Six people present have signed written statements describing what they saw.
According to the accounts, McCain waved his hand to shoo away Jeannette Jenkins, whose cousin was last seen in South Vietnam in 1970, causing her to hit a wall.
As McCain continued walking, Jane Duke Gaylor, the mother of another missing Vietnam serviceman, approached the senator. Gaylor, in a wheelchair equipped with a portable oxygen tank, stretched her arms toward McCain.
"McCain stopped, glared at her, raised his left arm ready to strike her, composed himself and pushed the wheelchair away from him," according to Eleanor Apodaca, the sister of an MIA Air Force captain.
"The Real McCain" by Cliff Schecter reports an angry exchange between McCain and his wife that happened in full view of aides and reporters during a campaign stop.
McCain was joined on the campaign trail by his wife, Cindy. At one point, Cindy playfully twirled McCain's hair and teasingly said, "You're getting a little thin up there." McCain's face suddenly reddened and he screamed, "At least I don't plaster on the makeup like a trollop, you cun*." McCain's excuse was that it had been a long day. If elected president, McCain would have many long days.
Schecter says McCain's anger is much more than a passion for the issues. One can only imagine what would happen if McCain were to try to squeeze that temper into the tight confines of diplomacy.
"The public certainly has to know what this guy might do as president," author Schecter says. Examples like the ones in his book "should worry people, quite frankly."

Ouch, hate it when those family secrets leak out. Of course we will hear about how it was all fabricated by the liberal media. The witnesses are lying. It's all a coordinated effort to make him look bad by showing what he is really like.
And, don't you know that a man has the right to talk to his wife in whatever disrespectful way he likes? Especially after a long day. See, there IS an explanation! He was tired! Must have missed his nap.
Seriously, there has always been something about McCain that bothered me. Maybe it was an underlying anger that I felt. This is insight into his temperament, and I expect that as usual, the conservatives will excuse and ignore it.
Even without the steam comming out his ears, it's an interesting picture. Seems he's not really the sensitive grandfatherly type he is trying to portray.
Thanks for the info Skeptic.
anytime.
Salamander:
family secret is also that Skeptic got a post deleted for an anti-semitic rant !
yeah, democrats - the nasty party
all the hate, candidate is a lightweight
but as far as temperament - we need someone with a temper in the Oval Office
look what we have now, a President constanlty called derogatory names by the Speaker ofthe House, Senator Majority Leader and almost all Democrats and he won't fight back
McCain an Palin seem like they will fight back the corruption and bias of the media and democrat party
good for him
salamander, if you fall for any of the postings as truth on these blogs...you're one GULLIBLE voter.....YIKES!!! - Especially from the constant political ones (left or right). They're addicted to their own view and cannot see beyond their own interpretations the world. I certainly hope you're NOT typical of the folks that peruse this stuff.... I read it and find it interesting to look at the different sources they drudge up but alot of stuff put out here trash. Anyone can find any source to back up "their" position on the internet. In fact, taken out of context EVERYONE can be found to flip-flop too. Jeez....
common_sense, like I said excuse and ignore.
keepingupdated-Actually after reading Skeptic's post I Googled "McCain temper". It's a little alarming how many pages popped up, especially since it's supposed to be (in your words) "trash".
Some of the sites were in fact liberal and biased, but the one's I found interesting were on the Washington Post, Time Magazine, some first hand reports of incidents on You Tube and my favorite from McCain's book (Worth Fighting For). Two separate mentions of his temper, one was that his temper is of "personal concern", then the reports of his temper were "exaggerated". In a recent interview he denied have a temper at all. Huh?? That's a pretty black and white statement from a man who has alienated many (GOPs included) after flying off the handle at them. Just letting you know as you seem concerned about it.
I would like to see McCain raise his hand, he cannot raise his arms above his lower chest. Come on, keep it clean.
loomis, they're all so whipped up in to furies about being "right" and the other side is "wrong" no matter what. you're so correct! These political blogs infuriate me. All of you are just a bunch of gossip mongers.
and salamander...obviously you've gobbled up the the gobbly goop, too. I get infuriated just reading this trash, never mind having to live with it in Washington!! If you've read anything about my posts, I'm very middle ground and I don't like either of our options this round. But this hit piece is low in my opinion. But then again, skeptic claims no name calling, and he puts out inflammatory hit pieces, one after another. I guess you must be a fan. I'm not.
keepupdated-I don't intend this to be "gobbly goop". These are issues that are of concern to me. I was just an concerned about the influence of Rev. Wright in Obama's life. Still am to be honest.
But you are not middle of the road if you don't investigate these issues. I get the feeling you are not interested in the truth, as proven by calling the temper issue a hit piece. You need to look into these stories to find out if they are fabricated or based in truth. Usually in a political story, even if it is "gobbly goop", there is a seed of truth. Even when McCain addresses this issue himself you won't accept it. Not really middle of the road.
Don't get infuriated, it's not good for your health.
BTW-you tube is a great way to check out speeches. Look up McCain cursing. It shows him repeatedly using the "F" word to a woman from a (I believe) woman representing families searching for MIAs. He actually got up and walked out. This was a taped hearing for crying out loud. Totally disrespectful.
keepingdated - "These political blogs infuriate me. All of you are just a bunch of gossip mongers. I get infuriated just reading this trash."
But yet you continue to participate. So?
Salamander: I know the signs: Irritability or sudden outbursts of anger, survivor guilt, difficulty concentrating, memory lapses, problems experiencing positive feelings such as happiness or love... I think McCain may be suffering from an untreated lifelong mental disorder called Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. Considering his time as a POW, it would be amazing if he didn't still have it. Anyone know if he's been treated for PTSD?
loomisresident-I almost forgot about this thread and it's old so don't know if you will see this. But there are several pictures of McCain waving to the crowds while campaigning and his hand is in the air, maybe that physical therapy is working.
