Lady Falcons soccer team off and running
The Colfax High girls soccer team has broke out of the starting blocks with a red-hot start to its 2010 season. This year’s Lady Falcons squad is anchored by several veterans from last season’s team which a year ago battled down to the wire for the 2009 Pioneer Valley League championship where they eventually finished in second place and qualified for the playoffs. Already with a pair of tournament championships under their belts this season, coach Steve Robinson’s squad opened PVL action Monday afternoon at home by routing Mesa Verde, 8-1. Senior Ashley Tobiasz led the way by tallying three goals. Also having a say in the win for Colfax were Elisha Partin, Ashley Broussard, Carrie Skipton, Kelli Johnston and K.C. Capuchino who all added goals for Colfax, which improved to 9-0-1. Capuchino added an assist while Kate Bianchi and Savanna Newman sparked the defense. The Lady Falcons recently swept through the Lincoln Tournament with three shutout wins. Colfax opened the tournament with a 1-0 victory over McClatchy, blanked Golden Sierra 5-0 in its second match and then posted an impressive 1-0 win over Sierra Foothill League foe Roseville in the finals. The win over Roseville saw the Lady Falcons and Tigers battle through a scoreless first half before Mathilde Bosgiraud, a foreign exchange student from France, scored the game winner in the last forty minutes. Colfax goalied Amber Cramer also was a standout with 12 saves in the match. Handling the scoring in the win over McClatchy was senior Ashley Tobiasz. Tobiasz also tallied a pair of goals in the win over Golden Sierra while Elisha Partin, Adrienne Van Auker and Iona Lofrano all added one score each. Colfax also posted a 7-0 non-league whitewashing of Forest Lake Christian as Tobiasz, Faith James and Ashley Gassaway each scored two goals while Bosgiraud added one with two assists. The Lady Falcons will travel Friday to play perennial Div. I section power Davis. JV action begins at 5 p.m. followed by the varsity match at 7 p.m. Last season the Lady Falcons and Davis battled to a 0-0 tie. Colfax then travels to Lincoln next Monday to resume PVL action. The varsity will be under the lights at 7 p.m. preceded by the JV Match at 5 p.m.
