Lifelong resident invites you to get to know city
Mike Maynard, Special to the Colfax Record

As a lifelong resident of Colfax, I have had many people ask, “what does it take to consider yourself a local? How many years do I have to live here to be considered a local?”

In considering these questions I realized that it isn’t how long you have lived here, but how much you know about the city and its residents.

So I thought it would be fun to start a contest during the city’s Centennial anniversary. I’m calling it “So you think you’re a local.”

Each week I’ll pose a question about a location in town – or an individual. Possible questions are “who was the first doctor” or “where was the first theater.”

So, if you think you know the answer, submit it to the Colfax Record office along with your name and phone number. The correct answers will be included in a drawing.

Prizes donated by local businesses will be awarded each week.

This week’s question is “Where was the first Colfax Theater located?”

The winner will receive a sandwich donated by Jon Colon of TJ’s Roadhouse.

Entries must be submitted by noon on Tuesday. Submit them via e-mail to gloriab@goldcountrymedia.com or call 346-2232.

And don’t forget the Colfax Lions Club’s annual Easter Egg hunt on April 3 at the Colfax Ball Park.

The first Colfax Theater was located in what is now Colfax. When can I pick up my sandwich?
