Tobiasz nets quick hat trick in Colfax rout

It took Colfax High’s Ashley Tobiasz only six minutes to record a hat trick Monday afternoon. The senior scored three early goals and the Falcons romped visiting Mesa Verde 8-1. Elisha Partin, Ashley Broussard, Carrie Skipton, Kelli Johnston and K.C. Capuchino added goals for Colfax, which improved to 9-0-1 overall but allowed its first goal of the year on a penalty kick. Capuchino also had an assist in her first game since joining the team after the Falcons’ basketball playoff run ended last week. Kate Bianchi and Savanna Newman anchored the defense for Colfax, which travels to Davis for a nonleague game Friday. Forest Lake Christian 7, Cristo Rey 1 at Lake of the Pines — Kaylee Lommori and Kacie McGeary each scored two goals to lead the Falcons at home Monday. Katelyn Seitz, Christa Weisman and Morghan Pomeroy added goals for Forest Lake. Weisman also had a team-high four assists. The Falcons (3-5-1, 2-0 Central Valley Christian League) travel to Woodland Christian Thursday.
BASEBALL Placer tagged Center starter Tyler Beeby for six runs in three innings and went on to rout the visiting Cougars 10-0 in five Monday. Cameron Southward scattered three hits, walked two and struck out eight in five strong innings. Evan Staton and James Taber each drove in two runs. Staton and Nick Mitchell had two hits apiece. The Hillmen (4-0) visit River City on Wednesday.
SOFTBALL Center scored the tying and winning runs in the bottom of the seventh to beat Colfax in Antelope Monday 5-4. The Falcons led 4-3 after a three-run fifth inning before stumbling in the final frame. In her first game back from basketball, Cassandra Campbell went 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI. Ashley Scott doubled in two runs and Meghann McCollum also doubled and drove in a run. Randi Anderson pitched all seven innings for Colfax (1-4), which hosts Wheatland Thursday afternoon.
