Woodcreek wins, Oakmont run ends in Bay Area
The Woodcreek boys basketball team was chasing Archbishop Mitty all night long, but fought its way to a huge win.
After trailing by 10 points to open the fourth period, the Timberwolves outscored Mitty 22-12 in the fourth to send the contest into overtime, and then 16-8 in overtime to win a Northern California semifinal 91-83 Saturday night in San Jose.
Woodcreek's team van blew a tire on the way to San Jose, but coach Burnel Pinkerton and the seven players who were on board came through safely, and then showed the same resolve that has carried them all year long.
Four Timberwolves scored in double figures as Woodcreek advances to the NorCal final next Saturday afternoon at Arco Arena.
The opponent for that game will not be rival Oakmont, as the Roseville squads were 1-for-2 in the Bay Area tonight. The Vikings lost at St. Francis of Mountain View 53-39 and saw their season come to an end.
St. Francis, the No. 2 seed and Woodcreek, seeded No. 4, will meet for the NorCal title and the right to head south the following week for the state title game.
Check back later for more game details on this Web site.
