The Colfax High girls basketball team faced a big task last night in the CIF Sac-Joaquin Section’s Div. IV basketball playoffs.

The Lady Falcons, fresh off last Thursday’s 57-38 quarter-final playoff win over No. 6 seed West Campus, was slated to face No. 2 seed and 29-0 Argonaut of Jackson at Tokay High in Lodi.

A Colfax win in that game would vault the Lady Falcons into Saturday’s 11:30 a.m. section championship game at Arco Arena in Sacramento.

However, regardless of the outcome of Wednesday’s game, Colfax has already secured a Northern California Regional bid. That tournament, which has expanded to 12 teams this season for Div. IV, will begin at home sites next Tuesday.

In last week’s win over West Campus, the Lady Falcons followed big scoring nights from Michelle Walker who tanked 22 points and Cassandra Campbell who added 19 to gain the semi-finals for the first time since 2006.

Campbell also grabbed seven rebounds and handed out five assists while Audrey Lewis also played well contributing eight points, 10 boards and six assists.

“We didn’t want to try and run with them,” said Colfax coach Dave Campbell said. “We wanted to run our half-court stuff all the way through and got a lot of good looks inside for Walker. Defensively we kept the ball out of the post and that was a key for us as well.”

Earlier last week, Colfax, now 19-11, opened the playoffs with a 64-41 dismantling of visiting San Juan, 64-41.

Placing 10 players in the scoring column, the Lady Falcons raced out to a 22-8 lead after a quarter and never looked back in easily handling the No. 14 seeded Spartans from the Golden Empire League.

Sophomore Hailey Biles tossed in 12 points to lead the Colfax win but she had plenty of help as Audrey Lewis hit for nine more points, Erika Heikila and Cassandra Campbell both sank eight markers and Michelle Walker, Cathy Hinrichs, and Kacey Capuchino all netted six points apiece.
