Local author speaks Saturday

Author and motivational speaker Julie Jenkins Sathe kicks off a speaker series at 3 p.m. on Saturday.

The special event takes place at the Old Pharmacy Coffee House, 30 Main St., in Colfax.

Julie has written two books, “Enlightened Discipline” and “TEENS! Change is Your Choice,” and offers great information for parents and educators.

Placer Union holds open enrollment

The Placer Union High School District is accepting open enrollment applications until April 5.

Applications can be picked up at the district office, 13000 New Airport Road in Auburn or at the high schools.

Kindergarten sign-ups approaching

Kindergarten registration begins March 12 for the 2010-11 school year.

Colfax Elementary opens registration from 8-11 a.m. and noon to 2:30 p.m. at 24825 Ben Taylor Road.

Students entering kindergarten must be 5 years of age on or before Dec. 2, 2010.

Registration packets can be picked up at the school on March 12.

Mark calendars for St. Patty’s dinner

The Colfax Ladies Auxiliary will host the 10th annual Corned Beef and Cabbage dinner at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday, March 20 at the Veteran’s Memorial Hall, 22 Sunset Circle.

The event includes a no- host bar, a raffle and a drawing for a night and dinner at the Silver Legacy.

Dinners reserved by March 13 are $13 per adult, $6 for children under 12 years and children under 5 years are free.

Tickets are an additional $1 at the door.

Green Machine hosts crab feed

The Green Machine is sponsoring a fundraiser dinner for the Colfax High School Wrestling team at 5 p.m. on Saturday, March 13 at the Sierra Vista Center, 55 School St. in Colfax.

The evening features all -you-can-eat crab, a no-host bar, silent auction, music and dancing.

Tickets are $35 and can be purchased by calling 878-4439.

“Little Mermaid” coming March 13

Insync Dance Studio will be performing ‘The Little Mermaid” at 2 and 7 p.m. on Saturday, March 13, and at 2 p.m. on Sunday March 14 at Placer High School Auditorium, on the corner of High and Agard streets in Auburn.

All proceeds will benefit the Kids Helping Kids Foundation.

Tickets are $10 for adults, $5 for children under 18 years of age, and free for children under 12 years of age. Call 823-6782 for tickets and details.

Comedy in Auburn slated March 20

The Soroptimist of Auburn will be hosting their eighth annual “Laugh Auburn First” comedy night at 6:30 p.m. March 20 at The Ridge Event Center, 2020 Golf Course Road in Auburn.

The evening features the comedy talents of Karen Rontowski and Tissa Hami as well as a live auction.

The proceeds will benefit Soroptimist scholarships for women and girls.

Free CPR training offered March 20

Volunteers from the Placer district of the American Red Cross will offer CPR and AED classes March 20 beginning at 7:30 a.m., and continuing through out the day, on the campus of William Jessup University, 333 Sunset Boulevard in Rocklin, pre-registration is required.

A $10 non-refundable fee is required at pre-registration.
