Former Colfax High and Sierra College receiver Justin Chastain will play on scholarship at Sacramento State. Chastain was one of the Wolevrines leading receivers the past two seasons.

Former Colfax High receiving standout Justin Chastain, who the last two seasons was one of the top receivers at Sierra College, will sign a letter of intent Wednesday to play football on scholarship at Sacramento State.

"It's pretty exciting," said Chastain on Tuesday. "It took awhile but I feel that it's a good place to be. I can hardly wait to get down there and go to work."

Chastain played in only seven games last season for the Wolverines before an injured foot sidelined the ex-Colfax star for the team's final three regular season games and a bowl contest.

Despite missing the four games, Chastain still latched on to 49 passes for 708 yards and scored six touchdowns.

In his freshman season in 2008, Chastain led the Wolverines with 54 catches for 858 yards and 10 touchdowns. He was named top the all-Valley Conference team and also selected to Northern Regional All-State squad.

"He did a great job for us," said Sierra coach Jeff Tisdel. "I'm happy for the young man. I think he will really help them down there."

Chastain had only received moderate interest from schools following this season. He had an official visit to Weber State but was resigned to the fact that he might play next season at Southern Oregon, a NAIA school.

However, Sacramento State, with six senior receivers slated to suit up this season, snared Chastain with an eye on the future.

"I'll probably red-shirt this season and that's fine," said Chastain. "I'll get a chance to learn the offense and get bigger and stronger."

At Sacramento State, Chastain will join former Colfax High and Sierra teammate Chris Briasco, a linebacker, who red-shirted last season.

Chastain becomes the seventh player from Sierra's team of last season to receive a scholarship to a four-year school.
