Library reopens
A portion of the Colfax Library reopened Tuesday. Temporarily set up in the renovated portion of the building at 2 Church Street, the library has a smaller interim collection, two public internet workstations and access to WiFi service. "Library and Facilities staff worked hard and long to get the library ready for service," said Mark Parker, director of Library Services for Placer County. "We appreciate our patrons' patience while we completed the first stage of the two-stage library construction project." The entire renovation project should be finished in April, he added. The library is open Tuesdays from 1 to 7 p.m., Wednesdays and Thursdays from noon to 5 p.m. and Fridays and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Library materials can be droppd in the collection box in front of the new entrance.

It's nice to see the Colfax Library is expanding, every city needs a good library. Hey, I've got a question for anyone who knows the Colfax area and understands its Real Estate. Is there a good reason why the multi-storied building across the railroad tracks (from the Library) is vacant and run down. Its the building with the statue of gold miner in front of it. Seems to me it would be a great purchase for any business, if a government agency, could buy it and renovate it -- its so close to transportation and downtown Colfax. Any idea WHY this building doesn't seem to sell?
