Four Sierra Foothills Little League All-Star teams will toss their hats into the postseason ring this week as play gets underway in respective District 11 Tournament action set for different sites around Nevada County.
In the majors division, for players ages 11-12, the SFLL All-Stars began Area II action last night in Nevada City with a scheduled game against Newcastle.
The SFLL majors, managed by Mike Vrooman, were looking for a win in their opener to advance the team to today’s second round against host Nevada City who drew a bye. Game time would be this evening at 5 p.m.
If the SFLL majors weren’t victorious in their opener, the team would drop into the loser’s bracket and would be idle until July 6.
Meanwhile, the SFLL 11’s, made up of All-Star players ages 10-11, will be in action at Grass Valley Little League’s Porter Field in Condon Park tonight with a first round 5:30 p.m. game against Nevada City.
A win for the 11s, managed by Mike Hinrichs, would move the locals into a July 8 winner’s bracket game while a loss would drop the team into a match-up between the loser of Bear River-Grass Valley on July 6. All games in the 11-year-old tournament begin at 5:30 p.m.
The SFLL 9-10 year-old All-Stars drew a first round bye and will open play tonight at 7 p.m. against the winner of a first round game between Bear River and Nevada City.
The Jr. Division All-Stars from SFLL are also in action at Grass Valley’s Condon Park. The team, made up of players ages 13-14, will play its first game tonight against Nevada City at 6:30 p.m.
