Bands from Hawaii, Hollywood at festival
Gloria Beverage

Bands from Hawaii and Hollywood as well as points in between will be performing during Friday’s Independence Day festival, noted Dan Kajimura.
The Colfax resident has lined up an eclectic mix of bands to entertain festival-goers starting at noon and continuing through the fireworks spectacular.
Headlining the day’s festivities will be Midnight Sun featuring David Swart on keyboards, Mark Leftridge on drums and Marty Reaves on guitar. The band has an extensive play list ranging from jazz/dinner music to hot rock ‘n’ roll/high energy dance music.
Swart has been a lifelong musician performing in the Lake Tahoe area for many years before moving to the Sierra foothills 15 years ago. His songwriting credits include a solo CD, “More Dogs than Bones,” which was released in 2007.
Leftridge, a former music teacher, divides his time between Midnight Sun and working as a “hired gun” for other bands and organizations in the area.
Reaves has been playing professionally since he was 16 and has performed throughout the U.S., Canada, Europe and Brazil.
Traveling from Hollywood will be Saint Motel, which will present Indie POP music at the Beer Garden Stage.
Former Colfax band, Art of Whimsy, will be performing on the Main Stage late in the afternoon. Now based in Hawaii, the band is currently on tour making their appearance in Colfax possible.
Among the other notable bands that have agreed to perform are Poindexter, a blues band from Folsom and Sacramento’s Mandolin Avenue, an eclectic Americana/bluegrass band.
Starting at 3 p.m., the Battle of the Bands will get underway at the historic Railroad Depot stage.
Among the bands scheduled to compete are Seeds of Credence from El Dorado County, Captain of Starship Earth from Lincoln, Colfax’s Aisle Six, Barbed Wire from Auburn and If You Swear to Listen from Lincoln.
Logan Entertainment from Marysville will present acoustic music prior to the fireworks spectacular, Kajimura said.
