Spence tosses perfect game

Colfax High senior Cara Spence pitched a perfect game with 11 strikeouts to lead the Falcons past Mesa Verde 3-0 Tuesday in Citrus Heights.

Spence was also just a home run short of hitting for the cycle. She finished 3-for-4 with two RBIs, a double and a triple.

Michelle Cavalier was 2-for-4 and Jessica Fitzhugh was 1-for-2 with an RBI for the Falcons, who improved to 4-5 overall and 1-1 in the Pioneer Valley League.

Bear River 9, Placer 0 at Lake of the Pines — The Bruins sped past the Hillgals at home to set up a PVL showdown against Lincoln Thursday.

Bear River banged out 14 hits and Kenzie Billings pitched four scoreless innings to get the win. Erin Nichol closed out the game with three strong innings of work.

Billings also scored three runs and had an RBI-triple in the sixth inning for Bear River. Stephanie Ceo was 3-for-3 with four RBIs, Courtney Ceo was 3-for-4 with one RBI and Sierra Pruss was 3-for-4 with one RBI. Kathryn Rabak tossed in an RBI-double.

Placer’s Courtney Phillips had a double while Tia Wright and Amanda Bond each singled.

GREAT JOB Cara! If my memory serves me correctly, I believe this to be her 2nd 0-0-0 game.

Fastball softball is a great game well played well.
